Exploring Smart Lighting Integration with Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer

Hi everyone, I’m really excited to share my journey with the Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer and how I’ve been trying to integrate it with my smart bulbs. As someone who loves both the convenience of smart home tech and the tactile feel of physical controls, I’ve been experimenting with ways to make these two worlds work seamlessly together.

I’ve got several Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer switches installed around my home, and I must say, they’ve been a game-changer. The ability to control them both physically and through my home automation system is fantastic. However, I’ve run into an interesting challenge with my smart bulbs. Most of them are only dimmable via their Wi-Fi interface, which means they need a constant power supply to stay connected in Home Assistant. If I try to physically dim them using the wall switch, they don’t behave as expected—kind of defeats the purpose of having both options!

I’ve been using Tuya Local for my smart bulbs, and while it works well, I’m still searching for a way to separate the physical switch control from the actual power adjustment to the bulb. Essentially, I want the wall switch to act as a seamless dimmer without disrupting the bulb’s connection to my automation system. I’ve tried a few workarounds, but nothing quite hits the mark yet.

Has anyone else tackled this challenge? I’d love to hear about your experiences or any clever solutions you’ve come up with. Whether it’s a different setup, a unique configuration, or even just a fresh perspective, I’m all ears! Let’s brainstorm together and see if we can crack this puzzle.

Cheers,
Steve
