Hi everyone, I’m excited to share my recent experience with integrating TCP smart lighting bulbs into my home automation setup. After some research, I came across the TCP integration created by Todd Wackford, which seems to be a great addition to the SmartThings ecosystem. I decided to give it a try and wanted to document my journey in case others are considering similar setups.
First, I purchased the TCP starter kit, which includes two LED bulbs and a hub. The setup process was straightforward using the SmartThings app. I followed the instructions to add the bulbs as devices and was impressed by how quickly they integrated into my existing smart home setup. The bulbs support dimming, which is a huge plus for creating ambiance in different rooms.
One feature I particularly enjoy is the ability to control these bulbs through voice commands with Alexa. It’s incredibly convenient to say, ‘Alexa, turn on the living room lights’ and have them respond instantly. I also set up some simple automations, like turning the lights on when I enter the room and dimming them when I start watching TV. These small automations have made my evenings much more comfortable.
However, I did encounter a minor issue when trying to group multiple bulbs together in a scene. It seems that only three bulbs respond to a single command, which is a bit limiting. I reached out to the community, and others mentioned experiencing the same thing. While it’s not a deal-breaker, I hope future updates will address this to allow for more seamless group control.
Another thing worth noting is the importance of having the correct hub firmware. Initially, I faced some connectivity issues until I updated my hub firmware to 0.11.603 as recommended. This update resolved the problems, and everything started working smoothly.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the TCP bulbs. They offer reliable performance, good integration with SmartThings, and the ability to customize lighting scenarios through voice commands and automations. If you’re looking to enhance your home lighting with smart bulbs, I highly recommend giving TCP a try. Happy automating! ![]()
