I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting and wanted to share my journey in setting up custom lighting presets. As someone relatively new to home automation, I found myself a bit overwhelmed when trying to create preset scenes for my lights. The goal was to have a seamless way to switch between different lighting modes, such as reading, entertaining, or relaxing, with just a touch of a button.
Initially, I considered using simple scenes but quickly realized that automation might offer more flexibility. The idea of having a dropdown menu in my UI to select different brightness levels and color hues was intriguing. However, I was hesitant about diving into automation scripts and setting up variables, as it seemed a bit daunting for someone at my skill level.
After some research and experimentation, I discovered that a combination of both scenes and simple automations could achieve the desired result without getting too complicated. I set up a few preset scenes for common modes and used automations to handle more dynamic adjustments, like dimming based on time of day or motion sensor input.
One of the most rewarding parts of this project was seeing how these presets transformed the ambiance of my home. Whether it’s a cozy evening with warm, dim lighting or a vibrant setup for a gathering, having these preset options has made managing my smart lights much more enjoyable.
I’d love to hear from others who have tackled similar projects—what approaches did you take, and what tips can you share for someone looking to enhance their lighting setup?
