Exploring Smart Lighting Solutions for a Functional Kitchen

I recently moved into a new home and am in the process of renovating the kitchen. One of the key areas I’m focusing on is lighting, and I want to share my thoughts and experiences with the community.

The kitchen has a wooden ceiling, and the existing lighting setup casts shadows on the countertops, which is not ideal for cooking. The electrician recommended against installing spotlights due to the difficulty of replacing bulbs without damaging the ceiling. Additionally, the windows are positioned very close to the ceiling, leaving limited space for traditional lighting solutions.

I’ve considered a few options:

  • Light strips above the countertops: This could provide adequate task lighting, but I’m concerned about whether it will be sufficient for all activities.
  • Light strips along the sloped ceiling: This might help distribute light more evenly, but I’m unsure about the aesthetic impact.
  • Hue Perifo track lighting: While this is a more expensive option, it offers flexibility with both spotlights and light strips. I’m particularly interested in the ability to control these lights through my existing smart home setup.

I’m also exploring the idea of integrating motion sensors to automatically adjust the lighting based on activity in the kitchen. For instance, brighter lights when cooking and softer lighting when entertaining.

Has anyone successfully implemented a similar setup? I’m open to suggestions and would love to hear about any challenges others have faced and how they overcame them. Let’s collaborate to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing kitchen lighting solution! :rocket:
