I’m currently in the process of upgrading my bathroom’s lighting system to something smarter and more energy-efficient. After doing some research, I came across the Phillips bathroom vent, which seems like a great addition to my setup. It runs 24/7 in auto mode, detecting motion and humidity, and adjusts its airflow accordingly. The wiring seems straightforward, but I’m a bit puzzled about how to integrate it with my existing smart home ecosystem using ST wall switches.
I have an extra KASA ST compatible light switch and a GE add-on switch. I’m wondering if these can be used to control the vent’s signal wires. From what I understand, these wires carry zero volts and act as signal wires, so I need a paddle-style switch that can handle this without any in-wall modifications. I’m not sure if the KASA switch will work, but I’m hopeful since it’s ST compatible. If not, I might need to look into other options.
I’m also considering the possibility of using a Hue bulb to change the light colors at specific intervals. My kids would love it if the light flashed or dimmed after certain periods, acting as a gentle reminder to turn off the water. I have a SmartThings hub, so I’m curious if integrating a Hue bulb would require a separate Hue hub or if it can be managed through SmartThings alone.
Another thing I’m exploring is the use of motion sensors instead of traditional switches. While they might startle visitors, they could provide a seamless and hands-free experience. I’m also thinking about setting up routines where the lights change color based on time intervals, which could be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
I’m excited to see how all these pieces can come together to create a smarter, more efficient bathroom. If anyone has experience with similar setups or can offer some guidance, I’d greatly appreciate it!
