Exploring Smart Lighting Solutions for Hearing-Impaired Roommate

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out for some advice on a project I’m working on. I have a roommate who is legally deaf, and while he’s incredibly independent, I want to make our living space more accommodating for him. The challenge I’m facing is finding a way to integrate smart lighting that can serve as an alternative to traditional alarms for waking him up in the mornings.

I stumbled upon the idea of using a zigbee light to strobe at specific times, which could act as a visual alarm. This would be especially helpful since he often oversleeps and relies on vibrations from the alarm, which isn’t always reliable. I’m curious if anyone has experience with setting up something similar or if there are any smart devices that can achieve this functionality out of the box.

I’m currently using Hubitat for my smart home setup, so I’m wondering if there’s a way to leverage that ecosystem to create this strobing effect. Maybe through a custom automation or a specific app? I’m also open to exploring other platforms if they offer better solutions.

Another consideration is the type of lights we have. We have a mix of LED and traditional bulbs, so I need something that can work seamlessly with our existing setup. I’m also thinking about the placement of the lights to ensure maximum visibility without causing any disturbances to others in the house.

If anyone has tips on the best devices to use, how to configure the automation, or even alternative solutions, I’d be really grateful! This project is close to my heart, and I want to make sure it’s both effective and easy to maintain.
