Exploring Smart Lighting Solutions for Holiday Automation

Hi everyone, I’m really excited to share my journey into creating a smart lighting setup for my home, especially for when I’m away on holidays. I’ve been experimenting with Philips Hue lights and I’m curious if anyone has tips on how to create a random light schedule.

I have five Hue lights in different areas of my house—dining room, bedroom, living room, hall, and landing. My goal is to have a dynamic lighting system that turns on different combinations of lights for varying durations, giving the illusion of someone being home. For example, having 2 or 3 lights on for 60-90 minutes, then switching to another random set.

I’ve heard about using automation rules in Home Assistant for such scenarios, but I’m not entirely sure how to configure them for randomness. Does anyone have experience with this? I’d love to hear about your setups or any challenges you’ve overcome!

Also, I’m curious if there are any apps or integrations that make this process easier. I’ve come across a few mentions ofIFTTT and Alexa routines, but I’m not sure how they integrate with Philips Hue.

Looking forward to your insights and tips! Let’s make my holiday lighting setup the talk of the neighborhood!
