As a homeowner who recently upgraded to LED lighting, I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect balance between energy efficiency and practicality. While LEDs are fantastic in many ways, their ability to dim to very low levels has been a bit of a challenge for me, especially in areas like the bathroom where even a small amount of light can be blinding at night.
I’ve tried several options, including the Philips 50W equivalent LED, which does offer a lower dim setting than others I’ve tested. However, it still feels too bright for my needs. I’ve also experimented with different dimmers, like the Leviton Vizia RF+ VRMX1-1LZ, which I love for its reliability and SmartThings integration. But the issue remains: finding an LED that can truly dim to near darkness without causing discomfort.
I’ve considered going back to incandescent bulbs for specific areas, but I’d prefer to stick with LEDs for their long lifespan and energy efficiency. Another idea I’ve floated is using masking tape to cover part of the light fixture, but my wife and designer aren’t too keen on that solution.
Has anyone found a LED or dimmer combination that works exceptionally well for low-light scenarios? Any recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other find the perfect setup. Happy experimenting! ![]()
