Hi everyone, I’m really excited to share my journey with smart lighting solutions for my shop. As someone who values efficiency and sustainability, I’ve been exploring how smart lighting can help reduce energy consumption and make my employees’ lives easier.
I recently installed a Dropcam to monitor the shop, but I noticed that my employees often forget to turn off the lights. This not only wastes energy but also adds unnecessary costs. I decided to look into smart lighting solutions that could automate this process.
I came across the SmartThings light switch, which seemed like a great option. However, I encountered an unexpected challenge when the electrician installed low-voltage (LV) wiring due to the existing wiring setup. I have five banks of lights all running on LV wire, and I’m wondering if SmartThings offers a LV relay that could work in this setup.
I’ve done some research and found that integrating Zigbee devices might be a way to go, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed. I’ve heard that Zigbee binding can sometimes be tricky, especially with devices like the Ikea Somrig shortcuts button. I’m curious if anyone has successfully used Zigbee binding for similar setups or if there are any tutorials that could guide me through the process.
Another area I’m exploring is multi-room Wi-Fi 6 mesh systems. I’ve been impressed by the Ubiquiti UniFi and TP-Link Deco systems, but I’m on a budget of around 300-400 euros. I’m wondering if dual-band systems would suffice since I plan to connect each node via UTP. Additionally, I’m interested in hearing about others’ experiences with home automation apps like Homey for presence detection.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with these solutions. Whether it’s tips on integrating different devices, recommendations for mesh systems, or insights on Zigbee binding, your input would be invaluable. Let’s keep the conversation positive and collaborative as we explore these exciting possibilities together!
Cheers,
