Hey everyone, I’m thrilled to share my recent experiences with smart lighting solutions using Hubitat. As a newbie in the world of smart homes, I’ve been experimenting with setting up motion sensors and lighting automation across my house. It’s been a fascinating journey, and I wanted to jot down my thoughts and some tips for others who might be starting out.
Starting with the first floor, I’ve been using the ‘motion and mode lighting apps’ for years, and they’ve worked like a charm. However, when I finished the basement, I decided to take it slow and learn the ‘Room Lighting’ app a bit better before diving into the more complex setup on the first floor. My kids absolutely love being able to turn the lights on and off themselves in the basement—it’s like their own little playroom!
One thing I’ve been curious about is how to handle overrides for the lighting timers. I saw that there’s an option to create a virtual button to undo an override, but I’m not entirely sure how to set it up so that it resets itself every night at 3am. Does anyone have experience with this or any tips they could share?
Another thing I’m pondering is whether I need to adjust my existing scenes to support being turned off, especially since I rely on the Rule Machine app for triggering a ‘sleep’ mode. It would be great to hear from others who have successfully integrated ‘Room Lighting’ with their existing setups.
I’ve also been thinking about whether there are any pros or cons to sticking with the ‘Zone Motion Controllers’ app versus moving everything to ‘Room Lighting’. From what I gather, ‘Room Lighting’ seems to have a lot of the features baked in, but I’m not entirely sure if it’s worth the switch given that I’ve had some reliability issues with ‘Zone Motion Controllers’ in the past.
Overall, I’m really impressed with how versatile and user-friendly Hubitat is. It’s been a joy to experiment with different configurations and see how they can enhance my daily life. I’m looking forward to continuing my journey and learning even more from this amazing community!
If anyone has tips, tricks, or experiences to share regarding smart lighting setups, I’d love to hear them. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other create the smart homes of our dreams! ![]()
