Recently, I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting, particularly focusing on DALI systems. I’m in the process of renovating my home and want to create a lighting setup that’s both energy-efficient and customizable. LED strips seem like the perfect solution for ambient lighting, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the choices between white/warm-white, RGBW, and RGBWW options. I’ve heard that high CRI values can make LED lighting feel more natural, but I’m not sure how realistic it is to achieve that with RGB-based systems.
I’ve also been researching DALI controllers and ballasts. From what I understand, I’d need a DALI controller to manage the system, a transformer to power the DALI bus, and individual ballasts for each LED strip. But I’m not entirely sure if this setup will meet all my needs or if there are more efficient configurations.
Another concern is flicker, especially at low light levels. I’ve read that 1KHz PWM dimming is better than lower frequencies, but I’m still worried about potential issues. I’d love to hear from others who’ve successfully implemented DALI systems, especially how they integrated everything with OpenHAB for automation. For example, I’d like to adjust lighting based on time of day or motion detection without blinding myself when I wake up in the middle of the night.
If anyone has tips on selecting the right LED strips, DALI components, or OpenHAB configurations, I’d be incredibly grateful! Also, are there any plans for a DALI binding in OpenHAB that could simplify this process? I’m excited to get started but could use some guidance to ensure I make the best choices for my setup.
