I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately, and I’m absolutely thrilled with the possibilities! 
I recently decided to upgrade my home lighting system, and I’ve been experimenting with Shelly RGBW2 and ESPHome to create a seamless, customizable experience. Here’s what I’ve discovered so far and some tips for anyone looking to do something similar!
My Setup
I’ve replaced traditional light switches with Shelly RGBW2 units, which have been a game-changer. These devices allow me to control my LED strips wirelessly and integrate them with my existing smart home ecosystem. Pairing them with ESPHome has given me even more flexibility in customizing their behavior.
Key Learnings
- Power-Up Configuration: I configured my RGBW2 units to turn on at full brightness when powered up. This ensures that the lights are always ready to use, and I can adjust the brightness manually through the app or voice commands.
- Durable Power Cycles: I’ve been testing the RGBW2 units extensively, and they’ve held up beautifully. Even after multiple power cycles, they consistently maintain their settings and responsiveness.
- App Control: The Shelly app has been an invaluable tool for managing my lights. It’s user-friendly and allows for precise adjustments, making it easy to create custom scenes and schedules.
- WIFI Connectivity: One thing to note is that after a power cycle, the RGBW2 units take about 10-15 seconds to reconnect to the network. This brief delay hasn’t been an issue for me, but it’s something to keep in mind.
