Exploring Smart Locks with Matter Technology

As I delve deeper into the world of smart home technology, I’ve been particularly intrigued by the potential of Matter-enabled devices. After years of relying on Z-Wave for my smart lock setup, I’ve decided it’s time to upgrade and future-proof my system. The Yale lock I came across, which supports Matter, seemed like the perfect choice, but it threw me for a loop with its requirement for a border router.

I currently use a SmartThings V2 hub and a TV that also acts as a hub, but I’m not entirely sure if this setup will be compatible with the new lock. To address this, I’ve been considering purchasing the SmartThings Station, which I believe might bridge the gap. However, I’m also curious about other options and whether there are more seamless solutions out there.

In my research, I stumbled upon the Lockly lock, which piqued my interest. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be compatible with SmartThings, which is a bit of a setback. I’ve also explored the possibility of sticking with Z-Wave, but with all the buzz around Matter, I feel compelled to fully embrace this new technology.

This journey has been both exciting and a bit overwhelming, but I’m determined to find the best solution that aligns with my current setup and future-proofing goals. If anyone has experience with Matter-enabled locks or can offer some insights, I’d be thrilled to hear from you!
