Exploring Smart Meter Integration and Matter Device Connectivity

Hi all,

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I’ve got a few questions and experiences I’d love to share with the community. First off, I recently acquired a Smart Meter Gateway (SMGW) from Open Limit Sign Cubes AG. I’m trying to integrate it into my openHAB setup, but I’m a bit puzzled about the right protocols to use—TRuDI, HAN, or something else? I’ve come across the SmartMeter binding in openHAB, but I’m not entirely sure if it’s compatible with my SMGW. Has anyone successfully integrated a similar device? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

On another note, I’ve been exploring Matter devices recently. I purchased a couple of 3rd Reality color night lights, and I’m really impressed with how they work as notification lights. They integrate seamlessly with MQTT, which is a big plus for my setup. However, when I bought two more units, they came with Matter support. I managed to set them up via Matter, but I’m struggling to get them to appear in my MQTT network. I’ve tried disabling and re-enabling Matter, but no luck yet. Does anyone have experience with bridging Matter devices into MQTT? Any guidance would be a lifesaver!

Lastly, I’m really looking forward to Prime Day next week! I’ve been eyeing some new lights and maybe even a smart speaker to round out my setup. It’s always exciting to see the deals and find something that can take my smart home to the next level. If anyone has any recommendations or tips on what to look out for, I’d love to hear them!

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!

Best regards,
