Exploring Smart Motion Sensors and Their Integration

I’ve been diving into the world of smart motion sensors lately, and I must say, it’s been quite an enlightening journey. I recently purchased the Linptech Human Presence Sensor ES1, which uses 24 GHz mmWave radar technology. It’s supposed to be compatible with a variety of hubs, including Tuya Zigbee, Smart Life, and ZHA. However, I’ve encountered some challenges that I thought I’d share and see if anyone else has experienced similar issues.

Initially, I had these sensors working perfectly with a Hubitat setup. They were seamlessly integrated into my Home Assistant ecosystem via the Hubitat bridge. But I decided to migrate away from Hubitat, opting instead for a SLZB-06 Zigbee hub, which has been working flawlessly with all my other devices. Unfortunately, one of my two Linptech sensors has stopped reporting data altogether. I’ve tried troubleshooting by removing and re-adding the device multiple times in both ZHA and Z2M, but to no avail. The other sensor, however, continues to function without any issues. Does anyone have any insights or solutions for this peculiar problem?

On a lighter note, I’ve been experimenting with creating custom automations using these motion sensors. For instance, I set up a system where the lights in my hallway automatically adjust their brightness based on the time of day and whether motion is detected. It’s a small touch, but it makes a significant difference in terms of convenience and energy efficiency. I’d love to hear how others are leveraging their motion sensors to enhance their smart homes!

Another interesting experiment I’m working on involves integrating motion detection with my Wyze cameras. I’ve noticed that enabling Complete Motion Capture (CMC) temporarily disables Person Detection, which is a feature I heavily rely on. Once my CMC trial expired, I expected Person Detection to resume functioning as before. However, it didn’t, and now I’m getting zero person detection events. I’ve tried resetting the cameras, updating firmware, and reconfiguring the settings, but nothing seems to work. If anyone has successfully navigated this issue, I’d greatly appreciate any tips or workarounds.

Lastly, I wanted to touch upon the importance of compatibility and thorough research when selecting smart home devices. While the allure of new technology is undeniable, it’s crucial to ensure that all components of your ecosystem are compatible and supported. I’ve learned this the hard way on a few occasions, but each experience has taught me valuable lessons that have improved my setup over time.

I’m curious to hear about others’ experiences with motion sensors and their integrations. Have you encountered any unique challenges or discovered innovative solutions? Let’s discuss and share our knowledge to help each other create smarter, more efficient homes!
