Exploring Smart Plug and Camera Integration

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home devices lately and wanted to share some of my experiences and tips. I recently picked up a couple of DoHome Smart Plugs, which claim to be compatible with HomeKit, Alexa, and Google. They’re ESP8285-based and supposedly firmware-upgradable over the air—definitely got my attention! I’ve heard about Tasmota as a potential interface for OpenHAB, so I’m eager to explore that. If anyone has experience with ESP8285 and OpenHAB, I’d love to hear your insights!

On another note, I’ve been experimenting with the Wyze Cam Pan v2. It’s a fantastic device, but I was curious if it’s possible to install it upside down and still have the image orientation corrected in the app. I’d love to hear if anyone has tried this or knows a workaround. Speaking of cameras, I’ve noticed that the Wyze app on my Chromebook works seamlessly, even though I’m on the beta channel. It’s great to see such compatibility across different devices!

One challenge I’ve faced is with my Amazon Music integration. I can play songs directly through Alexa, but the app itself doesn’t cast to my Echo devices. It’s a minor inconvenience, but I’m hoping Amazon addresses this soon. In the meantime, I’ve found that using Alexa’s built-in music player works like a charm!

I’d also like to share a quick tip for anyone looking to streamline their smart home setup. I’ve been using IFTTT to create custom automations, and it’s been a game-changer. For example, I set up my smart plugs to turn on my outdoor lights at sunset, creating a cozy ambiance without lifting a finger. If you haven’t explored IFTTT yet, I highly recommend it!

Lastly, I’m curious if anyone else has had success integrating multiple smart devices from different brands. I’ve got a mix of Philips Hue, Wyze, and DoHome devices, and while they mostly work together, there’s always room for improvement. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences. Happy tinkering everyone!
