Exploring Smart Plug Integration and BLE Mesh Compatibility

Hello everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home devices lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions regarding Works with Alexa smart plugs and their compatibility with BLE mesh. I recently purchased a set of these plugs, specifically the YNF brand from AliExpress, with the intention of integrating them into my Home Assistant setup. The packaging indicated they use a BLE mesh protocol, which I thought would make them versatile for my needs. However, I’ve encountered some challenges that I’m hoping the community can shed some light on.

Firstly, I’ve tried connecting these plugs using both a BLE mesh gateway and an ESP8266 BLE gateway, but without success. This has left me wondering: are these Works with Alexa IoT devices restricted to Alexa-only usage, or is there a way to unlock their full potential with other smart home platforms? I’d love to hear from anyone who has successfully integrated these plugs into a non-Alexa ecosystem or has insights into their limitations.

On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring other smart home devices and wanted to mention the Govee Phantasy lightstrip. It’s a fantastic product, and I’m curious to see if Govee plans to release a version with a single 10-meter strip instead of two 5-meter strips. This would be incredibly convenient for larger spaces and would definitely be a product I’d consider purchasing.

Another topic I’ve been thinking about is thermostat displays. I’ve noticed that some thermostats, like the Trane model I’m using, don’t show the current temperature reading by default. Instead, they only display the set point. I’d love to know if there’s a way to enable the current temperature display without upgrading to the latest controls or firmware. It would be a simple yet useful enhancement for users monitoring their home’s climate.

I’d also like to touch on the importance of community support in troubleshooting and innovation. For instance, the issue with the Govee lightstrip and thermostat display could potentially be addressed through user feedback or collaborative problem-solving. It’s inspiring to see how many creative solutions and hacks are shared here, and I’m eager to contribute my own experiences and learn from others.

In closing, I’d like to thank everyone who contributes to this forum. Your insights and willingness to help others make this community invaluable. If anyone has tips or tricks for getting the most out of their smart plugs, thermostats, or other devices, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the discussion going and continue to explore the endless possibilities of smart home technology together.
