Exploring Smart Shade Automation with Luminance Sensors

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and one project I’m really excited about is automating my window shades using a luminance sensor. With the long days of summer, controlling the sunlight in my den has become a top priority. The room gets quite warm in the morning when the sun streams through the east-facing windows, and I want a hands-off solution to keep things comfortable.

I stumbled upon the idea of using a luminance sensor to detect when the sun is shining directly into the room. The sensor would be placed on the window sill, facing outward, so it can ‘see’ the sun as it rises and moves across the sky. The goal is to have the shades automatically adjust based on the sensor’s readings, ensuring the room stays cool without me having to manually adjust them.

I’m planning to use WebCore to handle the automation logic, but I’m not entirely sure which luminance sensor would be the best fit for this project. I’ve done some research, but most of the information I found is pretty outdated. I’m hoping there are newer, more reliable options available now.

Has anyone here successfully implemented a similar setup? If so, what luminance sensor did you use, and how did you configure it with WebCore? Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I’m really looking forward to hearing from the community and learning from your experiences. Let’s make this project a success together! :sun_with_face:
