Exploring Smart Thermostat Integration and Automation Tips

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips, especially around smart thermostats and automations.

First off, I recently picked up a Hama smart thermostat starter kit and have been trying to get it fully integrated into my Home Assistant setup. While the integration with Tuya Smart Home has worked for some devices, I’ve hit a snag with the thermostat—specifically, I can’t see the temperature readings or control the device beyond turning it on/off. I’ve poured through logs and device attributes, and it seems like the thermostat is sending the right data, but something’s not translating correctly in Home Assistant. If anyone has encountered this or has a workaround, I’d love to hear about it!

On another note, I’ve been experimenting with creating more complex automations, like scheduling my shutters to open based on the sunrise but with some added conditions. For instance, I want them to open only after 7 AM and only on weekdays, excluding summer months. I’ve tried setting up the flow with conditions like sunrise time and day of the week, but it’s not quite behaving as expected. Any advice on how to structure such a flow would be super helpful!

I’d also love to hear about others’ experiences with different smart thermostat brands and their integration processes. Have you found any particular devices or integrations that work seamlessly with Home Assistant? And for those who’ve mastered complex automations, what tips do you have for structuring flows with multiple conditions?

Lastly, I wanted to share a quick tip for anyone looking to create dynamic messages for Text-to-Speech announcements. I’ve been using the LogReader add-on to pull messages from my logs and then transforming them to extract only the relevant parts. It’s been a fun challenge figuring out the right regex patterns to parse the logs effectively. If anyone else is tackling similar projects, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned!

Looking forward to hearing from you all and learning more about your smart home setups and automation hacks!
