As a homeowner in the UK, I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect smart thermostat setup for my boiler and hot water tank. My current setup includes an Ideal boiler and a separate hot water tank, and I’ve been exploring options through SmartThings. While the journey has been a bit challenging, it’s also been enlightening!
I’ve come across several options, but most either lack SmartThings integration or have mixed reviews. The Nest thermostat, for instance, doesn’t officially support SmartThings, though there are workarounds using Google Home. The Honeywell Lyric is another option, but it’s been criticized quite a bit. Hive and Netatmo also didn’t quite fit the bill, and Tado, while promising, doesn’t have the integration I was hoping for.
After some research, I’ve found that the best approach might be to use a combination of existing devices and smart plugs to create a custom solution. For example, using a smart plug to control the boiler and integrating temperature sensors in each room could provide the granularity I’m looking for. While it’s not a plug-and-play solution, it offers more control and flexibility.
I’d love to hear from others who’ve successfully integrated their heating systems with SmartThings or other platforms. Have you found any hidden gems or clever workarounds? Let’s share our experiences and help each other create the perfect smart home setup!
