I recently came across the HestiaPi project and it’s really exciting to see such an open-source solution for smart thermostats. It’s great to have options outside of the mainstream consumer products, especially for those of us who enjoy tinkering with hardware and software. The idea of running openHAB2 on a Raspberry Pi Zero with a touchscreen interface is fascinating! I’m definitely considering backing their crowdfunding campaign—it’s fantastic to support projects that contribute to the open-source community.
For those of you who are also exploring smart thermostats, I wanted to share my experience with the Nest E thermostat. I recently had an issue where the thermostat and Heat Link weren’t communicating properly after a factory reset. The workaround involved removing the Heat Link from the app, which wasn’t immediately obvious. If anyone else runs into this, make sure to check the Heat Link settings in the app before doing a factory reset!
Another topic I’ve been thinking about is the integration of Zigbee devices with platforms like Homey. I’ve heard mixed reviews about compatibility, especially with third-party devices. If anyone has successfully integrated a Hue Tap switch with Homey without needing a Philips Hue hub, I’d love to hear your setup details. It would be amazing to have a fully Zigbee-based system without relying on multiple hubs.
Lastly, I’m curious to know how others are handling their thermostat setups. Are you sticking with traditional systems, or have you made the switch to smart thermostats? What challenges have you faced, and what solutions have worked best for you? I’d love to hear your experiences!
