Exploring Smart Thermostats with Matter/Thread Compatibility

As someone new to the world of smart homes, I’ve been doing a lot of research on smart thermostats, especially those that support Matter/Thread. I’m really excited about the potential of these modern technologies to integrate seamlessly with my Home Assistant setup. While there’s a lot of information out there, it’s been a bit overwhelming to figure out what’s up-to-date and reliable.

One of my main goals is to replace my old mechanical radiator thermostats with something smarter. I’ve come across a few options that claim to support Matter or Thread, but many of them seem to require additional hubs or proprietary apps, which doesn’t quite align with my preference for an open ecosystem. I’d love to hear from others who’ve successfully integrated Matter/Thread-compatible thermostats into their Home Assistant setups.

I also have some specific use cases in mind. For instance, I’d like a thermostat that can detect when a window is open and automatically close the radiator to save energy. Another idea is to integrate my new electric floor heating with my existing PV system, so I can optimize energy usage based on solar power availability. Lastly, I’d love to find a way to control my basement heating valves using temperature sensors in the rooms above. Are there any devices that can help me achieve these goals without adding too much complexity?

If anyone has recommendations or success stories, I’d be thrilled to hear about them! It’s been a fascinating journey, and I’m eager to learn more about how to make my home smarter and more efficient.
