As a homeowner with a growing interest in smart home automation, I’ve been diving into the world of UPS setups and network automation. My journey began with setting up a redundant power system using two Smart-UPS 1400RM units, each equipped with an AP9617 network card. Pairing these with my HP servers and workstations has been a fascinating experience, though not without its challenges.
I’ve been experimenting with PowerChute Network Shutdown to automate the shutdown process during power outages. My goal is to have the system gracefully shut down all devices, starting with workstations and moving through virtual machines on my ESXi server. While the initial setup seemed straightforward, I’ve encountered some puzzling behavior. Specifically, the shutdown script I’ve developed doesn’t trigger as expected, leaving me scratching my head.
After some research and troubleshooting, I realized that the timing settings in PCNS might need adjustment. The Maximum Required Delay was set to 9 minutes, but it wasn’t triggering the script as intended. I’m now exploring whether the issue lies in how events are configured or if there’s a synchronization problem between the UPS units.
This journey has taught me the importance of meticulous configuration and the value of community support. If anyone has successfully implemented a similar setup or encountered and resolved similar issues, I’d love to hear about your experiences and tips!
On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring other smart home devices, such as the Govee Thermometer and various Zigbee2mqtt integrations. These additions have made my home more connected and efficient, and I’m excited to continue expanding my setup.
Happy automating everyone! ![]()
