Exploring Smart Washer Automation and Z-Wave Integration

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I’ve got a few experiences and questions to share! :red_car::sparkles:

First off, I’ve been working on automating my washing machine routine. Currently, I start the machine manually and then use a switch in the OpenHAB UI to trigger a 3-hour timer, which then turns off the machine. While it works, I’d love to fully automate it without needing to flip a switch every time. I was thinking of using the wattage data from a smart plug to detect when the machine starts, but I’m concerned about false triggers since the wattage spikes multiple times during the cycle. Has anyone tackled this before or have tips on distinguishing the initial start from subsequent spikes? :brain:

On another note, I recently migrated my OpenHAB setup from Ubuntu to macOS and ran into some Z-Wave issues. The devices are recognized and online, but writing values doesn’t seem to work. The logs show transactions being canceled after retry attempts. I’m not sure if it’s a compatibility issue or a misconfiguration. Has anyone else encountered this when switching platforms? Any troubleshooting steps you’d recommend?

I’d also love to hear about others’ experiences with integrating multiple smart devices from different brands. I’ve got a mix of Tuya, Z-Wave, and Zigbee devices, and while they mostly work together, there are occasional hiccups. What strategies have you found effective for ensuring smooth communication across different protocols? :globe_with_meridians:

Lastly, I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on: creating custom light scenes using Govee LED strips. It’s been a great way to add some personality to my home, especially with the changing seasons! :cherry_blossom: If anyone has tips on optimizing color transitions or creating dynamic effects, I’d love to hear them.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your insights and experiences!
