I’ve recently set up my first home server and I’m really excited about the possibilities with Home Assistant. I’ve been using SmartThings for a while now, and I’m curious to understand how these two systems can work together. Is there a primer or guide that explains the integration between SmartThings and Home Assistant?
I’m trying to figure out the benefits of running both systems. If everything I currently use already syncs with SmartThings, what does Home Assistant add? Is it about additional integrations, more flexible automations, or something else entirely? I’ve heard that some people use SmartThings as a pass-through for Zigbee and Z-Wave devices once connected to Home Assistant. Would that be a good setup for me?
Has anyone successfully integrated both systems? I’d love to hear about your experiences, challenges, and tips. What functionalities have you been able to achieve that wouldn’t be possible with just one system?
Also, I’ve been wondering about device compatibility. For example, I have a thermostat with a custom ‘Boost’ function. Is there a way to trigger this function directly from my Home Assistant dashboard without creating virtual devices or workarounds? I’d appreciate any insights or methods you’ve discovered for achieving this.
