Exploring SmartThings Automation and Integration Challenges

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of SmartThings automation and integration, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with the community. I’ve been using SmartThings for a while now, but as I expand my setup, I’m encountering some interesting challenges and opportunities.

First, I’ve been trying to integrate my Wyze cameras into my barn monitoring system. While they work perfectly at home, I’m struggling to get them connected at the barn, even though I have a reliable Wi-Fi repeater in place. I’ve tried resetting them and redoing the initial setup, but I keep getting an ‘operation failed’ error. Has anyone else experienced this issue, especially with Wyze Pan Cams? Any tips or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Another area I’ve been exploring is automation rules, particularly with boolean variables. I’ve set up a system where my bathroom lights turn on at certain times of the day, but I’ve encountered an issue where the boolean variable controlling this automation doesn’t reset properly when the shower is turned off. The logs show that the rule isn’t triggering as expected, and I’m not sure why. I’d love to hear if others have faced similar issues or have suggestions for troubleshooting this.

On the integration front, I’m also looking into connecting my Ring Alarm system with SmartThings. While Ring offers a lot of features, I’d love to leverage SmartThings capabilities like piston automation and device control. Has anyone successfully integrated their Ring Alarm into SmartThings? Any insights or SmartApp recommendations would be fantastic!

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with MQTT and automation flows. I’ve set up a flow to trigger notifications based on MQTT messages, but it’s sending notifications for both ‘home’ and ‘away’ messages, which isn’t what I intended. I’d appreciate any advice on how to configure the ‘WHEN’ card to only trigger on specific messages.

Overall, I’m really enjoying the flexibility and potential of SmartThings, but these challenges highlight the importance of community support and shared knowledge. If anyone has insights or solutions to the issues I’ve mentioned, I’d be thrilled to hear from you!

Thanks for reading, and happy automating! :rocket:
