I’ve been using SmartThings for a while now, and it’s been a fantastic experience. However, I’ve been thinking a lot about the sustainability of the SmartThings Cloud service, especially with the news that Iris is going away. I’m curious to know how Samsung plans to keep this service running for free, given that we’ve all invested in hubs and devices without any ongoing revenue for them. It’s a bit concerning because if the cloud service goes down, how will the hubs function? Will they still be able to process local rules, or will everything just stop? I’d love to hear others’ thoughts on this and whether there’s a backup plan if the cloud service isn’t sustainable in the long run. ![]()
Another thing I’ve been exploring is integrating devices from different brands. I have a mix of SmartThings, Govee, and Shelly devices, and it’s been a bit of a challenge getting them all to work seamlessly. For example, I recently set up a Shelly Plug S with a 6-digit ID, and I’m wondering if it’s necessary or beneficial to switch to the longer ID. I’ve heard you can do this with http://<shelly-ip>/longifyid, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the effort. Has anyone else done this and noticed any improvements? ![]()
Overall, I’m really impressed with how far smart home technology has come, but there are still a few kinks to work out. I’m excited to see how these services and integrations evolve in the coming years! ![]()
