Hi everyone, I’m thrilled to dive into the world of smart home technology! I just moved into a new apartment and I’m eager to start exploring how I can integrate various smart devices into my space. From what I’ve gathered, the SmartThings hub seems like a great starting point to control everything under one roof. But I have a few questions and I’d love to hear your insights!
First off, I’m looking at a list of devices I’d like to incorporate. I’ve heard great things about Philips Hue for lighting, but I’m also curious if there are other options that might offer more flexibility or better integration with SmartThings. I’m renting, so I can’t install something like a Nest thermostat, but I’ve come across the Honeywell Evohome system. Does anyone have experience with this, and is it compatible with the SmartThings hub? I’d really appreciate knowing if there are any potential hiccups with connecting it via the API.
Another area I’m exploring is door security. I’ve heard about Korner and Notion sensors, but I’m not entirely sure about their compatibility with SmartThings. My door setup is a bit unique—I don’t have space for standard clips—so any advice on finding a seamless solution would be invaluable. Additionally, I’m interested in setting up a door lock that works seamlessly with the hub. Any recommendations there would be fantastic!
For video surveillance, I’ve come across ManyThings, but I’m not sure how it integrates with SmartThings. Is it possible to control it through the hub, or would it require a separate setup? I’d love to have a unified system if possible.
I’m also thinking about adding some automation to my audio system. Sonos is on my radar, but I’m open to other suggestions that might offer better integration or additional features. Lastly, I’d love to automate my drapes. I’ve found a motorized solution I like, but I’m not sure how to connect it to my SmartThings setup. Any tips or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
I’m really excited to get started and create a smart home that feels truly personalized. I’d love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and any tips you might have for someone just beginning this journey. Thanks in advance for your help!
