Exploring SmartThings Home Monitor and Alexa Integration Tips

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of SmartThings Home Monitor (SHM) and integrating it with Alexa, and I must say, it’s been quite an adventure! While SHM has been working smoothly for the most part, I’ve encountered a few quirks with the Alexa Speaks SmartApp that I wanted to share and perhaps get some insights from the community.

First off, I was excited to use SHM modes (arm away, arm stay, disarmed) as triggers, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out as expected. I switched to using a virtual switch to trigger my automations, and that’s been working like a charm. However, there’s this intermittent delay between the trigger event and Alexa’s response, which is a bit frustrating. Sometimes, not all the tiers in the Speak(Tiered) action execute, which makes the experience a bit hit or miss.

I’ve also noticed that if motion stops during a sequence, the action doesn’t always complete all tiers, even though the “Stop responses when trigger is cleared” option is turned off. I’m considering creating a virtual switch to control the sequence, but I’m hoping there’s a better solution out there.

If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing SHM and Alexa integration, I’d love to hear them! Whether it’s about reducing delays, ensuring all tiers execute, or handling motion-triggered sequences more effectively, your insights would be invaluable. Let’s keep the discussion positive and collaborative—after all, that’s what makes this community so great!

Cheers to learning and growing together in the smart home space! :star2:
