Hi everyone,
I’ve recently started my journey into the world of smart home automation, and I must say, it’s been an exciting yet challenging experience. I’ve been using the SmartThings Hub to connect various devices around my home, including cameras, thermostats, and smart locks. However, I’ve encountered a few hurdles along the way that I’d love to discuss and get some advice on.
First off, I’ve been trying to integrate my Blue Iris cameras into the SmartThings ecosystem. While I’ve managed to get them working with Vera, I’m finding it a bit confusing to set them up with SmartThings v2. Does anyone have any tips or documentation that could guide me through this process? I’d really appreciate it!
Another issue I’ve come across is with my Z-Wave switches. They measure power consumption, but the wattage isn’t resetting to zero once the device is turned off. This makes it difficult to accurately track my energy usage. I’ve created a basic rule to reset the wattage for a single switch, but with 30 devices, it’s not practical to copy this rule for each one. Is there a way to create a group rule that applies to all my devices? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
Additionally, I’ve been exploring the possibility of controlling my windows using motors and a controller. I’m on the hunt for a cost-effective solution that’s also discreet. If anyone has any recommendations or experiences to share, I’d be grateful for the insights.
On a more positive note, I’ve been impressed with how the SmartThings Hub handles routines. For instance, I’ve set up a routine to turn off my air conditioner when the temperature drops below 24°C and turn it on when it rises above 27°C. However, the latter doesn’t seem to work consistently. I’m wondering if there’s a specific setting or adjustment I need to make for this to function properly.
I’d also like to touch on the topic of logging and monitoring. I’m interested in having a comprehensive log of daily activities, such as doors opening, motion detected, and lights being turned on or off. Does anyone know of a reliable way to achieve this within the SmartThings platform?
Lastly, I’ve been curious about the use of RGB or HEX codes for dashboard colors. I stumbled upon a color on Sherwin-Williams that I think would be perfect for my dashboards. Is there a straightforward method to extract the RGB or HEX code for that color and apply it here?
I’d love to hear your experiences, tips, and solutions to these challenges. Your insights could really help me optimize my smart home setup. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance!
Best regards,
