Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately and wanted to share some of my experiences and questions. First off, I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s possible to use a SmartThings hub alongside my existing ADT Pulse alarm system. My goal is to keep all my Z-Wave devices on the SmartThings hub without interfering with the alarm system. Has anyone successfully done this before? I’d love to hear if there are any potential conflicts or if they can coexist peacefully.
Another thing I’ve been exploring is finding reliable Z-Wave wall outlet receptacles that also function as repeaters to strengthen my network. I’ve come across a few options, but I’m looking for something currently manufactured and compatible with SmartThings. If anyone has recommendations, I’d really appreciate it!
On a lighter note, I’ve been working on a custom device handler for Alexa to treat a switch as a dimmer. While Alexa recognizes it and allows me to set levels by number, it doesn’t support incremental adjustments like ‘turn up’ or ‘turn down.’ I’m curious if there’s a specific capability or attribute I’m missing in the device handler that could enable this feature. Any insights would be fantastic!
Lastly, I wanted to share a success story. I recently upgraded my security system using the Konnected Security 2.0 kit. The process was a bit involved, but it was worth it to have a sleek, integrated system. I replaced my old panel, added some smart sensors, and even set up a tablet as a keypad. It’s been running smoothly, and I’m thrilled with how everything works together.
If anyone has tips, tricks, or experiences to share on these topics, I’d love to hear them! Happy smart home tinkering everyone! ![]()
