Exploring SmartThings Integration with Samsung Home Connect

I’ve recently taken the plunge into the world of smart home automation, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! One of the devices I’ve been experimenting with is the Samsung Home Connect, which I’ve set up strictly as a SmartThings hub. My primary goal was to integrate it seamlessly into my existing mesh network without disrupting my current Wi-Fi setup. I’ve managed to connect a few Z-Wave devices, and they’re functioning perfectly so far. However, I’ve noticed that the SmartThings app is still picking up all my Wi-Fi devices, like my computers and tablets, which I’d rather not have tracked. I’ve scoured through all the settings to disable any router functionalities, but the best I could do was turn off the Wi-Fi on the Home Connect itself. I’m wondering if there’s a way to completely shut down the router features on the Home Connect and just use it as a pure SmartThings hub. The fact that my Wi-Fi devices are being detected is a bit of a nuisance, and I’d love to find a solution to this.

Another thing I’ve come across is the presence of three ‘Things’ tiles in the app, which don’t seem to have any status updates. I suspect these might be a result of the connected Wi-Fi devices, but I’m not entirely sure. I’d appreciate any tips or insights on how to remove or disable these tiles.

Considering my location in Canada and the availability of local retailers, the Samsung Home Connect was the most accessible option for me, and the price was definitely a bonus. However, I’m now considering whether it would be better to track down a dedicated SmartThings hub (v2 or v3) to avoid these issues altogether. I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with either setup and how they managed their configurations.

In the meantime, I’m still exploring the potential of the Home Connect as a hub and seeing how far I can push its capabilities. It’s been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to see how I can optimize my smart home setup further. Thanks for any advice or suggestions you might have!
