Exploring SmartThings New App Features and Challenges

As a long-time user of SmartThings, I’ve recently made the switch to the new SmartThings app after being prompted to update my account to Samsung login. While the transition to the classic app was smooth, my curiosity led me to explore the new version, only to encounter a few unexpected hurdles.

One of the first things I noticed was the absence of routines in the new app. As someone who relies heavily on routines like ‘Goodnight’ and ‘Good Morning’, this was a bit disorienting. I attempted to create a new automation but found it to be a dead end. The scene creation feature was also underwhelming, lacking essential options like mode changes or home security status updates. My main query remains: how can I replicate the functionality of ‘Goodnight’ with a simple button press in the new app? It seems like a feature that shouldn’t be so hard to implement.

Another minor frustration was the navigation within the app. Swiping endlessly to find the desired room felt cumbersome compared to the straightforward layout of the classic version. While not a deal-breaker, it’s definitely something Samsung could improve upon.

Despite these issues, I’m excited about the potential of the new app. Its interface is cleaner, and I appreciate the effort to streamline the user experience. I’m hopeful that Samsung will address these concerns and restore the functionality that made SmartThings a staple in my smart home setup.
