Hello everyone, I’m diving into a few interesting topics I’ve come across recently and thought I’d share my thoughts and experiences. Hopefully, this can spark some discussion or help others facing similar challenges!
Booting Home Assistant from an SSD on a Raspberry Pi 4
I’ve been experimenting with running Home Assistant from an SSD on my Raspberry Pi 4. The motivation was to avoid the reliability issues often associated with SD cards. While I can successfully boot the Pi from an SSD using standard Raspberry Pi OS, I’m running into problems when using a Home Assistant image. The Pi gets stuck in a loop saying it can’t read the partition as Fat. I’ve tried different SSDs and converters, but no luck yet. If anyone has successfully done this, I’d love to hear your setup and any tips you might have!
Monitoring Presence with Apple Watch and iBeacons
Another topic I’m curious about is using an Apple Watch to monitor iBeacons for automations. I often leave my phone behind in the house but always wear my watch. It would be fantastic to leverage the watch for presence detection. Has anyone tried this? I’m wondering about the feasibility and any potential limitations compared to using a phone.
Solving Timer Random Value Conflicts
I’ve also been working on a script to manage random timer values in my setup. The challenge is ensuring that multiple timers don’t end up with the same random value. If they do, I want the script to restart and generate new values until all are unique. I’ve got the basic script working, but I’m looking for ways to optimize it further. Any suggestions on improving efficiency or handling edge cases would be appreciated!
Fixing LED Flickering with a Simple Trick
On a lighter note, I wanted to share a solution I found for flickering LED lights. After replacing my MR16 lights with MR10 LEDs, I noticed flickering when the lights were off. I tried several fixes, but the simplest one was adding a small C7 Christmas light across one of the LEDs. It’s almost unnoticeable and solved the issue without significantly affecting energy savings. It’s a neat workaround for anyone facing similar problems!
Connecting Arlo Pro 2 to a Base Station
Lastly, I’ve been having trouble connecting my Arlo Pro 2 camera to a new Arlo Base Station VMB4540. The camera and base station blink blue but never connect. I’ve tried multiple setups and factory resets, but nothing seems to work. If anyone has encountered and resolved this issue, I’d be grateful for any advice!
These are just a few of the things I’ve been exploring. It’s amazing how a community like this can help troubleshoot and share solutions. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
