As a long-time enthusiast of smart home technology, I’ve been diving into some exciting new solutions this year. From cameras to thermostats, there’s so much innovation happening! Let me share my thoughts and experiences with you.
First off, I’ve been experimenting with the Wyze Cam Plus and its subscription service. While the camera itself is impressive, I’ve noticed some quirks. For instance, it reliably records everyone except the mail carrier and Amazon delivery folks. It’s almost as if they’ve got some sort of invisibility cloak! 
I’ve reached out to support, and they’re looking into it, but in the meantime, it’s a fun mystery to ponder.
On the topic of cameras, I’ve also come across some fantastic Aeotec MiniMotes from The Smartest House. These little devices are perfect for adding smart functionality to any space without the bulk of traditional remotes. They’re discontinued now, but you can still find them at a great price. If you’re into DIY projects, these could be a game-changer!
Another area I’ve been exploring is motorized window shades. I’m in the market for some that integrate seamlessly with my SmartThings setup. After doing some research, it seems like brands like Somfy and Hunter Douglas have solid reputations. If anyone has firsthand experience with these, I’d love to hear about your setup and preferences!
Speaking of SmartThings, I’ve also been tinkering with some custom apps. One project I’m particularly excited about is creating a virtual thermostat that controls fans based on temperature. The goal is to have fans turn on when the room is within a certain degree range of the target temperature. While I’ve got the basics down, I’m still tweaking the logic. If anyone has advice or tips, I’d be grateful!
Lastly, I’ve been keeping an eye on the latest updates from Wyze. Their recent firmware updates for bulbs and headphones have been a mixed bag. While the bulbs now support longer SSID names, the headphone app has some connection issues that I’m hoping they’ll iron out soon. It’s all part of the journey, though!
