I’ve recently started my journey into the world of smart home devices, and I must say, it’s been an exciting ride! One of the first things I wanted to tackle was automating my lighting system. After doing some research, I decided to go with Wyze Smart Plugs—they seemed like a great balance between affordability and functionality.
Initially, everything worked smoothly. I installed a couple of plugs, and they integrated perfectly with my existing setup. However, as I started adding more devices, I noticed some inconsistencies. For instance, when my wife was streaming on the Roku, the plugs would sometimes act up, flickering on and off. It was a bit puzzling, but I figured it might be related to the router I was using—an older Netgear AC750 model.
I decided to dig deeper into this issue. After some online research, I found that many users were experiencing similar problems, especially when their homes had multiple smart devices. It seemed like the router’s performance was a bottleneck. I started looking for recommendations on forums and discovered that many people swear by the TP-Link Archer AX6000 for its speed and reliability.
Curious to see if upgrading my router would solve the problem, I ordered one and set it up. The difference was almost immediate! The Wyze plugs became much more responsive, and the flickering issue was a thing of the past. It was a great learning experience—sometimes, the solution isn’t about the devices themselves but the infrastructure supporting them.
This experience has made me more confident in exploring other smart home projects. I’m now looking into setting up a more comprehensive automation system, maybe integrating some sensors and automations. The journey is just beginning, and I’m excited to see where it takes me!
