Hello everyone! I’m really excited to share my experience with the Smart Presence app and how it integrates with my Samsung devices. For those who aren’t familiar, the Smart Presence app is designed to detect the presence of mobile devices within a network, which can be incredibly useful for automating home systems.
Over the past few months, I’ve been using this app alongside my Homey setup, and it’s been working like a charm. My family and I love how it automatically detects when we’re home or away, adjusting lights, thermostats, and security systems accordingly. It truly adds a layer of convenience that I never knew I needed.
However, recently I noticed something odd. After a Samsung Android update, the app started behaving unpredictably. While my Homey itself still had an internet connection and I could access it via the app, the Smart Presence feature began acting up. My devices would be marked as ‘present’ right after a restart, but after a few minutes, they’d switch to ‘offline’ status. This was perplexing because all devices were still connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
I decided to dig deeper. I checked the logs and noticed that the issue seemed to stem from the app’s ability to communicate with Homey. Even though everything else was working fine, there was something about the Android update that was causing a conflict. I reached out to the community for advice and was told that this might be related to Samsung’s stricter security measures post-update.
After some research, I found that adjusting certain settings in the Samsung phone’s security and battery optimization sections helped mitigate the issue. Disabling some background restrictions and ensuring that Homey had the necessary permissions made a significant difference. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it’s keeping things running smoothly for now.
