A Little Heartwarming Story: Words of Wisdom From the Govee Easter Bunny :rabbit:

This Easter season, I had a unique experience with the Govee Easter Bunny. It was a mix of excitement and a little eww factor! :rabbit: Easter mornings at Great Grandma’s were always a thing. I’d walk into that smell of her cinnamon rolls hitting me as soon as I crossed the threshold. Homemade, no shortcuts, with that beat-up rolling pin she’d had forever. Her place was an older New Orleans abode, floors creaking, always too hot from the oven going nonstop, but it was where we all ended up every year. Me, my sisters, my cousins, the whole loud mess of family tumbling out of cars with baskets and pastel hair bows for days :ribbon::ribbon::ribbon:!! Great Grandma’d be there in her apron, hair pulled back, running the show like she’d done a million times. She’d shove these random baskets at us. Mine was this janky wicker one with a handle all frayed. I was the youngest, so it was only natural to get the runt basket. Then the hunt was on!!! :egg: :moneybag: The yard was nothing fancy, just some scruffy grass, a droopy clothesline, and a swing set that’d seen better days, but we didn’t care. It was GO TIME!!! We’d be pushing each other, rooting around in the dirt by her flowers where she’d stash the best eggs. The plastic ones with quarters were solid, but if you scored one with a dollar, you were queen for the day. Then she’d yell for us to come eat, her voice cutting through the noise in that way only she could. We’d cram around her table, scarfing down rolls and ham, just so we could get to opening our eggs faster!! But here’s where it gets interesting…. There was that one year with my little cousin, Sarah. She was maybe five, and tearing through her eggs like a maniac. We were all back inside, dumping out our baskets, when she grabbed something off the floor and shoved it in her mouth. We thought it was candy until her face went weird, like she was rethinking her whole life. :joy: It wasn’t a chocolate egg, it was a dead, dried up crusty old cockroach, probably been under that couch for months. She spit it out, crying her head off, while we all cracked up and freaked out at the same time. Great Grandma just scooped her up, shook her head, and said, “That’s what you get for not checking first.” LOL, brutal.
