Exploring the Integration of Multiple UPS Systems for Redundancy

Hello fellow enthusiasts, I’m reaching out to seek your expertise on configuring redundant UPS systems. I have two APC UPS units: a MGE Galaxy 5000 with a 66074 network card and a SURT6000XLI with an AP9631 card. Both are critical for powering my server setup, and I want to ensure seamless operation in case of a power outage.

From what I’ve gathered, APC refers to this setup as redundant configuration. However, their documentation specifies that both UPS units need to be the same model and type. This has me a bit puzzled. Is this a hard requirement, or can I achieve redundancy with different models? If it’s necessary to have identical units, what options do I have to make this work? I’d love to hear your experiences and any workarounds you’ve implemented.

Additionally, I’m curious about the best practices for monitoring and managing such a setup. How do you ensure both UPS units communicate effectively and handle power transitions smoothly? Any tips or resources you can share would be invaluable. Thanks in advance for your insights!
