Hey everyone, I’m currently in the midst of a bit of a tech dilemma and I’m hoping you all can offer some insights. I’ve been deeply invested in the Google Home ecosystem for quite some time now. From the Google Home Mini to the Hub, I’ve built a pretty solid setup. It feels almost like a marriage—I’ve poured a lot of time and resources into it. But lately, I’ve been eyeing Alexa with a growing interest. There’s something about the new Echo Dot that’s caught my attention, and I’m considering adding it to my setup for my second property.
I’ve heard a lot about Alexa’s improvements in intelligence and conversation ability, which is a big plus. But the main reason I’m leaning towards Alexa is Google’s shortcomings in basic home automation features. Geolocation-based routines? Not happening. Direct sensor inputs? Doesn’t seem to be an option. And while Google has Nest, I can’t help but feel Amazon’s Blink, Wyze, and Ring integrations are more robust.
I know Google has promised geolocation triggers for early 2020, but I’m getting impatient. Waiting just isn’t an option anymore. I need a system that can keep up with my lifestyle.
But here’s the catch: I’m not entirely sure about the downsides of switching. What am I overlooking? Is it worth the potential hassle of a messy transition? I’m curious to hear about others’ experiences—those who’ve made the switch, those who’ve stayed with Google, and any insights into the grass being greener on the other side.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice! It’s a decision I’m taking seriously and I value your perspectives.
