I’ve always been fascinated by the world of smart lighting, and over the past few months, I’ve had the chance to dive deep into it with Govee and Philips Hue. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’d love to share some of my experiences and tips with you all!
Starting with Govee, their products have truly amazed me. The Govee Light Festival 2023 was a fantastic event, and seeing how people from all over the world used their lights to create beautiful, festive environments was inspiring. I especially loved the Glide Wall Lights—they’re so sleek and modern, and the way they can be customized to fit any space is brilliant. I’ve been using them in my living room, and they’ve completely transformed the ambiance!
However, one thing I wish Govee would improve is the availability of transparent outer lens bulbs, especially in an Edison style. I have a ceiling fan with bulbs that I’d love to switch over, but I haven’t found a suitable option yet. If anyone knows of a workaround or a similar product, I’d love to hear about it!
Moving on to Philips Hue, their integration with SmartThings has been a game-changer for me. I’ve managed to connect several Hue bulbs, and while there was a bit of a learning curve, it was well worth it. I’d like to share a quick tip for anyone struggling with their Hue setup: using the Kudlow device handler in the SmartThings IDE has made the process much smoother. By manually configuring each bulb, I was able to get them working perfectly, even though they initially showed up as “Not Yet Configured.”
For those of you who might be dealing with similar issues, here’s a quick step-by-step guide:
- Install the Kudlow device handler in your SmartThings IDE.
- Reset your Hue bulbs using the Lutron remote method.
- Turn off all bulbs and add them one at a time in the SmartThings app.
- In the IDE, edit each bulb’s settings to match the Kudlow Color Bulb type.
- Sit back and enjoy your perfectly integrated Hue setup!
I’d also love to hear about your experiences with other smart lighting brands or any creative ways you’ve used your lights to enhance your space. Whether it’s a festive party setup or a minimalist home design, every story is unique and inspiring!
Let’s keep the conversation going and continue to explore the endless possibilities of smart lighting together. Happy lighting!
