As a relatively new homeowner, I’ve been on a quest to create the perfect smart home setup. One area that’s been particularly exciting to explore is smart lighting. I recently purchased a few Govee smart lights, and I must say, the experience has been nothing short of amazing! 
Why Govee?
I was drawn to Govee for a few reasons. First, their lights are incredibly affordable compared to other brands. Second, they offer a wide range of options, from desk lamps to under-cabinet lighting. And third, the integration with Alexa seemed seamless, which was a huge selling point for me.
Setup and Integration
Setting up my Govee lights was a breeze. I simply downloaded the Govee app, connected my lights via Wi-Fi, and within minutes, they were ready to go. Integrating them with Alexa was just as easy—after enabling the Govee skill in the Alexa app, I could control my lights with voice commands in no time!
Features I Love
- Customizable Colors: My favorite feature has to be the ability to set custom colors. I’ve created a relaxing blue hue for my bedroom and a vibrant red for my home theater setup.
- Scenes and Routines: I’ve set up scenes for different times of the day. For example, in the morning, my lights automatically adjust to a warm, inviting tone to help me start the day.
- Energy Efficiency: The lights are incredibly energy-efficient, which is a huge plus for someone like me who’s always looking to save on utilities.
Challenges and Solutions
While most of my experience has been positive, there was one hiccup. Initially, I had trouble getting my lights to work with Google Home alongside Alexa. After some research, I discovered that this was a known issue with the Govee app. However, I found a workaround by using IFTTT to connect Google Home to my Alexa routines. Problem solved!

If you’re considering Govee lights, here are a few tips:
- Start Small: Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to smartify your entire home at once. Start with one room and gradually expand.

I’m already planning my next Govee purchase—a set of outdoor lights to complete my smart home setup. The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to see how my home evolves with these amazing devices!
