Exploring the Wyze Cam Pan and Voice Assistant Integration

Hey everyone, I’m really excited to share my experience with the Wyze Cam Pan and how I’ve been integrating it into my smart home setup. As someone who loves tinkering with gadgets, I’ve found the Wyze Cam Pan to be an excellent addition, especially with its pan and tilt features. However, I recently stumbled upon an interesting challenge that I thought I’d share with you all.

The Issue with Rotation Limits
I noticed that whenever there’s a power outage or a restart, the Wyze Cam Pan resets its position, which can be a bit annoying, especially since I usually keep it in a fixed position to enjoy its timelapse feature. The camera’s rotation limit setting kicks in during restarts, requiring me to manually adjust it every time. I reached out to the Wyze community to see if there’s a way to disable this rotation limit setting on startup, but it seems like there’s no straightforward solution yet. I’m hoping someone might have a workaround or a clever hack to keep the camera in its last position after a restart.

Voice Assistant Integration Insights
On another note, I’ve been experimenting with integrating my Wyze Cam Pan with a voice assistant for a more seamless experience. I stumbled upon a feature request on GitHub regarding the display of named timers in Home Assistant using Voice PE. This got me thinking about how much more intuitive and user-friendly our smart homes could become with such features. Imagine being able to set a timer for your coffee machine and seeing it right on your dashboard—now that would be a game-changer!

Tips and Tricks
While waiting for official updates, I’ve been using some workarounds to make the most of my Wyze Cam Pan. For instance, I’ve set up a simple automation using SmartThings to adjust the camera’s position back to my preferred angle after a restart. It’s not perfect, but it does the job for now. I’m also exploring the possibility of using IFTTT to trigger a reset script automatically, though I’m still in the early stages of that project.

Looking Ahead
I’m really hopeful that Wyze will address the rotation limit issue in future updates. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the flexibility and creativity that my smart home setup allows. It’s amazing how a little tweak or automation can make such a big difference in our daily lives.

If anyone has any tips or tricks for working with the Wyze Cam Pan or integrating it with voice assistants, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the ideas flowing and make our smart homes even smarter together. :rocket:
