Exploring the Wyze Color Bulb Group Issue

I recently encountered an interesting challenge with my Wyze color bulbs, and I thought I’d share my experience and solution in case anyone else runs into a similar issue.

So, the setup: I have a group of Wyze color bulbs that have been working perfectly for over a year. They’re integrated into my smart home ecosystem, and I use them extensively with Alexa for various routines and scenes. Everything was smooth until recently when I noticed that one of the bulbs stopped responding to group commands. It would turn on and off individually through the Wyze app, but within the group, it was unresponsive.

This was perplexing because the bulb itself was functioning fine, and the group had been working without any issues. I tried the usual troubleshooting steps: rebooting the router, resetting the bulb, and even recreating the group from scratch. Despite all this, the issue persisted. Alexa would consistently report the bulb as offline when trying to control it within the group, even though the bulb was clearly operational.

After some digging, I realized that the problem might be related to how the bulb’s firmware interacts with the group setup. I decided to force-update the bulb’s firmware, even though it was supposedly up to date. Lo and behold, after the update, the bulb began responding correctly within the group again.

This experience taught me the importance of keeping firmware updated, even if it seems unnecessary. It also highlighted how sometimes the simplest solutions can resolve what initially appears to be a complex issue.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has encountered similar problems or has additional tips for troubleshooting group setups with Wyze bulbs. It’s always great to learn from others’ experiences and solutions!
