Hey all, I wanted to share my experience with the Wyze Pan Cam and RTSP setup. I recently got this camera and set up RTSP on my Mac laptop using VLC—it worked perfectly at home! But when I tried accessing it from work, I ran into issues. The error message was pretty clear: ‘cannot connect to server.’ After chatting with a rep, I learned that RTSP can only be viewed on the same network as the camera. This was a bit confusing for me, especially since I set up the camera to keep an eye on my dog while I’m at work. The phone app drains my battery, so I was hoping for a better solution.
I reached out to the Wyze support team, and they explained that RTSP’s limitations are due to network security protocols. While this makes sense from a security standpoint, it’s a bit frustrating for users like me who rely on remote access. I’m curious if others have found workarounds or alternative solutions for monitoring pets or homes remotely without draining their phone batteries.
