Exploring Vera Alternatives for Enhanced Home Automation

As a long-time Vera MK1 user, I’ve always appreciated its capabilities, but I’ve also felt it lacks in true automation without diving into Lua programming. The idea of automating my home with simple IF-THEN logic without needing to write complex scripts has always been appealing. That’s why I’m really excited about the upcoming release of the SQ Blaster Pro, which promises to combine Vera-like functionality with the flexibility and reliability of their iPhone app.

The SQ Blaster Pro’s support for Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, and IR blaster technology sounds like a game-changer. Plus, the responsive tech support from Square Connect adds to the appeal. While I’m still unclear on whether it runs on MiOS or not, as long as it works reliably, I’m all for it!

Most of my investment is in dimmers, switches, and iPod touches, so the controller itself is just a small part of my setup. The thought of upgrading to something that offers more advanced automation without needing to retrain my family is incredibly appealing. The fact that it will still work seamlessly with SQ’s iPhone app is a huge plus for me.

I’d love to hear others’ thoughts on Vera alternatives and how they’ve improved their home automation setups. Have any of you made the switch to the SQ Blaster Pro or found another controller that meets your needs? Let’s discuss!
