Exploring Vera and iRule Integration for Home Automation

I’ve been diving into the world of home automation lately, and I’m really excited about the potential of combining my home systems with my A/V setup. I’ve heard a lot about iRule and its ability to bring everything together in one app, which sounds perfect for what I’m trying to achieve. However, I’m still in the early stages of understanding how to integrate Vera with iRule effectively.

One thing that’s been on my mind is the feedback feature in iRule. I’ve read that it’s supposed to work with Vera, but I’m not entirely sure how to set it up. Has anyone here successfully implemented this? Also, I’m a bit concerned about the security aspect. Vera typically uses port 80 for communication, which I know isn’t the most secure. I’m wondering if there’s a way to configure iRule to use a more secure port, like the one provided by cp.mios.com, without needing to dive too deep into XML or HTML. I’m not a programmer by trade, so I’m trying to keep things as simple as possible while still ensuring everything is secure.

On another note, I’ve been exploring MQTT for sending sensor data around my home. It seems like a great solution, but I’ve noticed that the MQTT_Statestream integration is a bit limiting. I’d love to have more flexibility, like being able to specify custom topics for each sensor. This would make it easier to organize and manage my data, especially as I add more devices to my setup. I’m curious if others have found workarounds or have suggestions for achieving this level of customization.

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with Shelly devices, particularly the door/window sensor and the Plug-S Plus. I’m trying to create a scenario where the Plug-S turns on when the door is open and off when it’s closed. While the basic automation works, I’ve noticed that after a short time, the behavior flips, which is pretty frustrating. I’d love to hear if anyone has encountered this issue or has tips on how to resolve it. Maybe there’s a setting or a workaround I’m missing.

Overall, I’m really enjoying the journey of setting up my home automation system, but there are definitely a few bumps along the way. I’m eager to hear from others who might have faced similar challenges and how they’ve overcome them. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other out as we build our smart homes!
