Hey everyone, I’m new to the world of smart home automation and I’m really excited to dive into Vera. After a recent security scare, I’m looking to revamp my home security setup, and Vera seems like a promising option. I’ve been doing some preliminary research, but I have a few questions I’d love to get some input on.
First off, I’m curious about Vera’s notification system. If the connection to findvera.com is lost—say, if someone cuts the phone line—can Vera still send me alerts via text or a phone call? I want to make sure I’m covered even in the most unexpected scenarios.
Another thing I’m exploring is the ability to control non-Z-Wave devices. I’ve heard Vera can work with other protocols, but I’m not entirely sure how that translates to energizing relays remotely. Are there specific outputs or adapters I need for this? And once I set something up, how accessible is Vera’s programming interface? I’d love to know if I can write custom scripts to automate certain tasks.
I’m also interested in how Vera handles backups. I’ve heard it’s possible to export settings, but I’m not clear on where these backups are stored. If my Vera unit ever fails, how quickly can I restore everything to its previous state without losing any configurations?
Lastly, I’d love to customize Vera’s web interface. I’d like to integrate it seamlessly into my own security page, maybe even add a secure login feature. Is this something Vera supports out of the box, or would I need to do some heavy customization?
I’m really looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences with Vera. The more I learn, the more confident I’ll feel in taking the plunge and integrating it into my home security system. Thanks in advance for your insights!
