Exploring Vera's Special Characters and OpenHAB's Persistence Configuration

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into some interesting challenges with my Vera and OpenHAB setups, and I wanted to share my experiences and seek some advice.

First, I’ve been working with Vera and encountered an issue with special characters in alerts. After a fresh install, I noticed that alerts with certain characters were displaying incorrectly. For example, ‘Rec?ara’ appeared instead of ‘Rec?mara’. I found that sending alerts directly from Vera worked fine, but when using PLEG, the issue persisted. I’m curious if anyone else has faced this and how they resolved it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

On the OpenHAB front, I’ve been experimenting with InfluxDB as my persistence service. Initially, I set up a separate database and retention policy, which worked perfectly. However, after a reboot, the configuration reverted to the default settings. I’d love to know if others have experienced this and how they managed to keep their custom configurations intact.

I’m also looking into optimizing my smart home setup, particularly with motion sensors in high-humidity areas like the bathroom. If anyone has recommendations for sensors that handle moisture well, I’d love to hear about them.

Overall, it’s been a journey of learning and problem-solving, and I’m excited to connect with the community to share experiences and gather ideas. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your thoughts!
