Hello everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I’m particularly interested in setting up a reliable video doorbell system. My goal is to create a setup that integrates seamlessly with my existing smart devices while offering the features I need for security and convenience.
I’ve been researching various options and have come across two main approaches. The first option involves using a standalone doorbell system like the Doorbird, which seems to integrate well with Blue Iris software for local video recording. However, I’m a bit hesitant about the long-term flexibility and the cost involved.
The second option is more of a DIY approach, combining a Reolink camera with Aeotec Siren 6 devices and a Z-Wave button. This setup would allow me to customize the system to meet my specific needs. I’m particularly interested in having multiple chime units throughout my house and the ability to converse with visitors through a two-way audio system. However, I’m not entirely sure how to integrate all these components smoothly.
I’ve also been exploring the use of SmartThings for automation. For instance, I’d love to have my lights turn on automatically when the doorbell is pressed, or set up a routine where my security cameras start recording when motion is detected. These small automations would make my home feel more secure and connected.
One challenge I’ve encountered is finding a two-way speaker that works seamlessly with my setup. I’ve reached out to the community for recommendations and have found some interesting suggestions, but I’m still testing different options to see what works best.
I’m also curious about how others have tackled similar projects. Have you managed to integrate a doorbell system with multiple chime units and two-way audio? What tools or platforms have you found most helpful for setting up these kinds of automations? I’m excited to hear your experiences and tips!
Looking forward to your insights and sharing my progress as I continue to explore and build my smart home setup. ![]()
